“Lice.” It’s the classroom’s four letter word. It is that which shall not be named. The very word is enough to get you feeling all itchy and scratchy. These lousy (*derived from louse!) little bugs are also the subject of David Shannon’s new picture book, “Bugs in my Hair.”

This book is guaranteed to make you laugh–and itch! From the opening picture of a happy, oversized louse appearing with his suitcases, you know these bugs are determined to stay, and Mom is about to go nuts!

It’s a Lice-a-palooza! While I’ve never personally had to deal with lice, I’ve had many a student sent home with bugs in their hair, and know just how frustrating they can be. Like I said, lice have been deemed a “taboo” subject. No one wants to raise their hand and admit their child has them. But here’s the thing…

Nobody talks about them, but they are everywhere. (Some estimate 20 million children a year host them.) Oh the shame and humiliation of having BUGSinmyhairbugs in your hair! But if you go to school, or have play dates, chances are good you might meet them someday. Maybe you already have! Lucky for you, the unwelcome bugs in this story are so funny you will be laughing aloud–even when Mom attacks them with battle-tested anti-lice weapons.

This book is a must-have for every teacher and family. This book in classic Shannon style, puts a smile on your face and is chock-full of super cute illustrations all while helping to remove some of the stigma of having lice. Plus, it’s full of some fun facts! (Did you know that we get the term “nitpicking” from picking out lice nits?)

David Shannon’s mix of humor and factual information makes Bugs in my Hair the perfect book for this very itchy subject!

One lucky Chasing Supermom reader is going to win 3 fantastic David Shannon books! We have all three of these books and LOVE them! You’re going to “itch” with laughter!
