This weekend, my family and I set sail on The Portland Spirit with the Cinnamon Bear and all of his friends from Maybeland. We had the opportunity to go last year, so my kids knew just how much fun was in store for them. My children often talk about the Cinnamon Bear, and eagerly await the day when they can see him. This cruise has become a cherished family tradition, and it is the perfect way to kick off your holiday season.cruise (3 of 9)

Upon boarding, you are warmly greeted by an amazing cast of pirated, fairies, and elves – all ready to make your cruise as happy and comfortable as possible. Everyone on board is incredible, and the service is unmatched. I think at some point during the cruise, every cast member made a point to greet my family or talk to our children – getting down on their level, making eye contact and friendly conversation.

Your family is welcome to help themselves to a light breakfast buffet, featuring plenty of fresh fruit, some pastry, and free coffee, tea, and juice, as the elves and fairies serve hot chocolate table-side. Enjoy the AMAZING beauty of Portland, as you sail down the Willamette. My children love sailing beneath the bridges, and keeping an eye out for other known landmarks, like OMSI and Oaks Park.

cruise (6 of 9) The fun begins with a complimentary photo with the Cinnamon Bear himself. Snuggle up with this beloved bear (that I remember meeting as a child!) and say cheese! Next, it is story-time with Queen Melissa. (We love the Queen Melissa cruise in the spring too!) Listen as she tells the story of the Cinnamon Bear and the Silver Star. She does a wonderful job engaging the children, inviting them to help her tell the story with fun sound effects. cruise (5 of 9)

cruise (7 of 9)After the story, it’s time for a magic show with Presto the Magician. This is a favorite for my children, as Presto does an incredible job. He blends humor with slight of hand magic, and caps off his show with a classic trick!

During the cruise, all families are welcome to head up to the top deck to meet Captain Taffy and the Crazy Quilt Dragon. While you’re there, why not say cruise (9 of 9)hello to the captain of the ship, and try your hand at steering the Portland Spirit! (My little man could have stayed at that little steering wheel ALL day!) Captain Taffy helps your child become a certified pirate, and has a certificate for each child. (They get to loot his candy treasure chest too!)

Finish your voyage with carols and have your photograph signed by all of the cast members. (My children LOVE this, and carry their pictures around for weeks!)

All local Portland area families should consider booking a voyage on the Cinnamon Bear Cruise. This is the perfect way to celebrate the holiday season as a family, and is sure to become a cherished family tradition. Make some memories and sail down the gorgeous Willamette with Cinnamon Bear and all of his friends from Maybeland.

I cannot recommend this cruise enough! Happy sailing and Merry Christmas!

  1. I totally grew up listening to this radio show & had yet to met anyone outside my family who knew it! It makes me so happy to know this exists!

    • I did too! I LOVED the Cinnamon Bear when I was little, and am so thrilled to get to introduce him to my kids!
