Octopus Dogs: Creative Lunch Idea for Kids

I don’t know about you, but I get into a lunch rut with my kids. It becomes so easy to just pull out the fixings for PB&J, that aside from the occasional box of macaroni, my kids eat a lot of the same day after day for lunch. These “Octopus” Dogs are a quick and creative lunch solution – that changes up our typical menu, and gives the kids something fun and out of the ordinary.

Octopus Dogs combine two things my kids love already – hot dogs and pasta. Added bonus? They’re easy to make and super-duper budget friendly. It doesn’t get much cheaper than pasta and hot dogs! Another side bonus? Your kids will think you are amazing. My kids thought I was about the coolest thing ever the first time I made these. I know that will fade, so I am soaking that in while I can! (Whatever works right?) 😉

Enjoy!

Octopus Dogs

Octopus Dogs are a quick and creative meal idea for kids.

Ingredients:

hot dogs – cut in half (horizontally)

dry spaghetti noodles (*I like to use thin spaghetti or angel hair for this recipe, as it cooks faster.)

*This is an easy recipe to prepare for one child or many children. Use the quantities that your needs require.

To Prepare:

1. Boil water in a large pot on the stove.

2. While waiting for your water to boil, insert 8 pieces(ish – this obviously isn’t a scientific replica of an octopus!) of dry pasta into one of the hot dog halves. It works best to group the dry pasta together, and push it as a unit into the piece of hot dog. Don’t insert it too far into the hot dog, or it won’t cook properly.

3. Drop the hot dogs (stuffed with uncooked pasta) into the boiling water, and cook until the pasta is al dente.

Serve and enjoy!
