I don’t know about you, but holidays are usually pretty hectic. Between four kids, the presents, the cinnamon roll breakfast, and the overall excitement of Christmas morning, the very last thing I want to be thinking about is spending time in the kitchen preparing a meal. I want to ENJOY Christmas – not spend the day cooking away.
This last week, I decided to try cooking a ham in my crock pot….and it worked! While this concept may be old hat for some, discovering that I could serve up my holiday ham with just a few minutes of preparation was super exciting for me. My ham was juicy and flavorful. Of course, it never hurts to begin with a quality product. Our hands-down favorite ham is Hormel’s Cure 81. *Optional – Pineapple Juice
Begin by placing your ham into your crock pot. In a separate bow, mix together enough brown sugar and mustard to form a paste with a “toothpaste-like” consistency. This is a very forgiving and adaptable recipe. You can’t screw this up.
Pour the mixture on top of your ham. *If you’d like a sweeter ham, you can pour a 1/2 cup to 1 cup of pineapple juice around the ham.
Put the lid on your crock pot and cook on medium heat for 4-6 hours, or until the internal temperature of the ham reaches 140 degrees. I typically turn my ham once during the cooking process.
Enjoy this SIMPLE and delicious way to prepare your holiday ham. Let your crock pot do the work while you spend your morning with your family. Happy holidays and happy ham!!Pin It
