Last night, I had the privilege of seeing An American Paris on stage at the Keller Auditorium in Portland, Oregon. Never having seen the movie, I didn’t know what to expect – and could never have guessed what a treat I was in for!

I have never before attended a theatrical performance where dance played such a vital role to story. Typically in musical theater, much of the story is told through song. While the musical score of An American in Paris is incredible – it’s the beautiful blend of contemporary and ballet dancing that stirs your heart. The entire ensemble cast danced with grace and elegance.

As an audience-goer, you couldn’t help but fall in love with each of the “3 Musketeers”- masterfully portrayed by McGee Maddox (Jerry), Etai Benson (Adam), and Christopher Howard (Henri). Lise, beautifully danced and portrayed by Leigh-Ann Esty absolutely sparkled on stage.

Seeing the way love, truth, and goodness changed each of the title characters was truly something spectacular to watch. An American In Paris will inspire you to take risks (especially for the ones you love), to be your true self, and to spread hope and light to a dark world whenever it is in your power to do so.

An American in Paris won four 2015 Tony Awards, four Drama Desk Awards, four Outer Critics Circle Awards, the Drama League Award for Best Musical, three Fred and Adele Astaire Awards, and two Theatre World Awards. The musical was included on the Year’s Best lists of The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Entertainment Weekly, The New Yorker, the Associated Press, The Hollywood Reporter, and The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

This is a show you don’t want to miss! Get your tickets while An American In Paris is still in Portland!
