We are always on the look-out for new ways to explore and experience our community, so I was SO excite to find out about Urban Adventure Quest. Urban Adventure Quest is a scavenger hunt style tourism game -and it’s a total blast! (I have a special promo code for you at the end of the post!!)

Here’s how Urban Adventure Quest works:

Start by selecting the city you want to explore. (There are currently 71 locations to choose from! We chose Portland, Oregon.) Your smartphone will guide you through the city, leading you on a fun and interactive walking tour of the city. Along the way, you’ll solve clues, complete challenges, and work together to unlock city secrets. (Don’t worry- there are hints available if the puzzles are too challenging!) You’ll see famous landmarks and sites and possibly uncover some hidden gems, all while learning interesting facts and city history along the way. With Urban Adventure Quest, you play the game, see the sites, and explore your city in a whole new way!

We grabbed our friends and decided to explore Portland and enjoy Urban Adventure Quest as a family. Our team name? The Portland KaleBlazers. (Yes, I know how awesome we are.) 😉

The Portland Adventure begins in Pioneer Courthouse Square, takes you through the Portland art district, on a streetcar ride, past the infamous food carts, to Powell’s, and several other lesser known Portland gems. It was SO much fun – and such a unique way to experience the city.

We started our Portland adventure in Pioneer Courthouse Square, and set off on foot around our wonderfully quirky city. It was really fun to see some of the Portland landmarks through the eyes of my kids.

Our adventure had us looking more closely at buildings and landmarks I’d taken for granted – stopping to enjoy the architecture and beauty as we hunted for clues.

We explored the outdoor courtyard of the Portland Art Museum, where the kids loved seeing all of the outdoor sculptures, and made our way through the Portland Park Blocks.

On our adventure, we were able to experience some treasured favorites (Hello Powell’s!) as well as a few things we’d probably never have done otherwise – like accidentally stumbling upon the Damian Lillard Hip Hop Festival. (Now that is a memory we will never forget!)

We got to stop and enjoy the Ira Keller Fountain (a fave of ours before we head across the street to see plays), check out the infamous food cart pod, and stop and take notice of some street art. The digital clues are so thoughtfully chosen – prompting you to visit, explore, and truly SEE your city in a new way.

My daughter even had her first-ever street car ride!

And, we may have stopped to throw a little shade in front of the Oregon State University store….(Go Buckeyes!)

With the kids out of school for summer break, an Urban Adventure Quest outing would be the perfect way to spend the afternoon as a family. Explore and enjoy your city, find new favorite places to visit, and re-visit old favorites through new eyes. This is an experience you won’t soon forget. (This would also be ideal for a fun way to entertain out-of-town guests this summer!!)

You can enjoy Urban Adventure Quest as a competition/team-building activity OR simply use the format as a fun way to explore and enjoy your city. (We were not trying to get a good “time”/score or rank high on the leaderboard, and still had a fantastic day!) Urban Adventure Quest is perfect for family outings, date night, girls night, etc.

While all of our kids did incredibly well tagging along and enjoying the adventure, all 4 adults are wanting to go back and do this again as a date night!  It was the perfect city loop full of fun stops, sites, and experiences. We loved it!

  1. Sounds fun! Do you think it would be fun for a group of adults? How big is too big for a team?

    • We did it with another couple, but I think 6 adults would be a good-sized team as well.
