I’m a day late with the Mom Spotlight this week, but I am so pleased to introduce you to Adrienne! I have enjoyed chatting with her over the internet, and know you will enjoy reading all about her! I so have loved getting to know other moms through this feature. We are all so different, and yet so the same. Sit back, grab a cup of tea, and spend a few minutes getting to know Adrienne. =)
The Basics:
Name: Adrienne May
Age: 25
Kids: Son – “Noah-Joe” 3 yr old boy, 2 step-daughters (to-be), Adrienne (yes we have the same name) or little
T – 8 yrs old, Abbriel or Abbie-do – 12 yrs old.
Hometown:
Kid Stuff:
Children’s TV show I actually LIKE: I love Phineas and Ferb, I think it is just snarky enough for the pare
nts to
get a good laugh. And the songs are catchy. I know I like it more than any of the kids though.
My children are NOT allowed to watch: Anything scary anymore, the 12 yr old came to our bed twice and I
decided that my fiancée was WAY overestimating her ability to handle semi-scary content.
One kids’ movie I really love is: I love lots of kids movies, I am a Disney fanatics and I like a lot of animation
as well. I liked How to Train your Dragon and really thought that was a great one, I also liked the Sorcerer’s
Apprentice – very good “whole family” movie
My favorite book(s) to read to my kids are: We read lots of books here, I like to read Dr. Seuss books the best,
mostly because I think it is fun to read silly words and rhymes… the Lorax is a particular favorite, I make a
funny Lorax voice.
My kids go to bed at: 9-9:30. We try to put the 3 yr old to bed earlier, but with the older siblings staying up,
most days he is up til 9 or 9:30 as well
My favorite rainy day activity is: playing Rockband with the whole family! Everyone can play and everyone
loves music/dancing…
When it’s warm out: we like to Barbeque and go to the parks.
My favorite kid friendly restaurants are: Buffalo Wild Wings, I think I like it just because it is my 3 year old’s
favorite, it isn’t like EXTRA kid friendly or anything. He just loves it enough that it makes it an easy place to
go eat. He always will ask for “chicken wings” if you ask him where he would like to go!
Let’s Eat:
The pantry item I absolutely cannot live without is:
My go-to weeknight dinner is: Spaghetti – easy and everyone eats it, with or without hamburger
My go-to company meal is: probably Spaghetti, lol, it also feeds a lot of people
The food I pretend to buy for the kids that is really for me is: Frozen pizza, its for me in that in a pinch it is easy
and fast and no one complains
My food weakness is: brownies
I am not myself in the morning until I’ve had my cup of: Diet Coke — I am not a coffee drinker, but I work full
time – need the caffeine
ME:
Aside from my kids, I am PASSIONATE about: education, especially access to college and the transition to
college, politics, daily/world news, and new technology.
If I had a whole day all to myself, I would: Tinker – like tinker bell, I would probably waste most of the day
doing little projects that I like but that didn’t NEED to get done. I might read up on the news and do some little
crafty projects or scrapbook. I would organize the areas that no one sees or cares about but me (drawers, shelves
of the bookshelves, etc)
My absolute most favorite movie of all time is: Snow White
My favorite TV show is: Parenthood
My celebrity crush is: Patrick Dempsy (spelling?) you know, the guy from Grey’s Anatomy
If you were to put my ipod on shuffle, you’d likely hear: classic rock, pearl jam, hootie and the blowfish
The best book I ever read was: I love the book “The Clan of the Cave Bear” by Jean M Auel. It is part of a
series but it really was a huge favorite of mine since I was about 12 years old.
My spouse (partner) and I keep romance alive by: having dates, getting little alone times together when we can,
we only use one car so we get some built in time just in the commute in the morning and evening. We work at
the same university (different departments) but we are able to grab lunch together almost every day – helps us
get through the work day as well as getting us a little time to connect
My favorite place to shop is: Old Navy — their clothes just fit right on me
I am sent to my breaking point when: we have step-family issues. I am new to dealing with being a step-mom
so some of the reactions of my fiancées children are surprising and I am finding hurtful. I try not to be offended
but emotions have gotten the better of me more than once. I especially have trouble when the 8 yr old and 3 yr
old are fighting and competing for attention.
When I’m stressed out I: I tend to retreat, my instinct is to withdraw from activities and pout. I am trying to
communicate and ask for assistance more and my fiancée is incredibly helpful to me in this area.
My favorite (most tolerated) way to exercise is: treadmill, walking, swimming when possible
The best piece of advice I ever received was: be yourself, be honest and don’t apologize for your personal
choices
