I am so excited to share one of my very favorite Halloween season traditions with you today. The kids and I look forward to “Great Pumpkin Day” every year. Making yearly traditions builds excitement, creates opportunities for bonding, and develops life-long memories. Here is a little look at one of our family’s favorite annual Fall traditions.

First, we carve our pumpkins.

Next, we make the infamous, “Great Pumpkin Cake.” You can find versions of this cake all over the internet. I first got the idea HERE.

First, start by preparing ANY flavor of cake, and bake it in a bundt pan. (Make sure to spray your bundt pan GENEROUSLY, and let it cool completely before you try to unmold it!)

Next, tint a can of white frosting (any flavor you like) with food coloring to make the color orange you desire. Begin to frost your cake.

I like getting the kids involved in the frosting as well! (It may take longer and not look as pretty, but it’s so important to get them cooking/helping from an early age!)

Such determination…=)

When your cake is frosted, you can decorate it the way Kraft suggests, using a green frosting coated ice cream cone as a stem, or can take an “easier way out” and simply decorate the “pumpkin” with Halloween sprinkles.

or…

To wrap up our Great Pumpkin Day, we all snuggle up on the couch, make popcorn, have a slice of our cake, and watch “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown!”

I hope this look into one of our favorite family holiday traditions will inspire you to create a yearly tradition with YOUR family. Here’s to Great Pumpkin Day and a very Happy Halloween!!

Trick or Treat everyone!
