Oh Snickerdoodles, where have you been all my life? How on earth I waited 31 years to make (or try) a Snickerdoodle is beyond me. Pure craziness. Snickderdoodles will now become a part of our cookie baking rotation. I found these to be soft, delicious, and the perfect fall cookie.

Ingredients

1/2 cup stick butter or margarine

1/2 cup shortening

1 1/2 cups sugar

2 eggs

3 1/2 cups flour

2 teaspoons cream of tartar

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

For topping

1/4 cup sugar

2 teaspoons cinnamon

Ready to bake? Here we go! Preheat your oven to 350, grab your apron, a little baking assistant, and be prepared for one tasty cookie!

1. Start by creaming together your margarine, shortening, and sugar. It should be light and fluffy.

2. Add in the eggs, and mix well.

3. Add in remaining dry ingredients, and mix until incorporated.

Now for the fun part! This part is a GREAT way to get your kids involved in the kitchen. My six year old LOVED helping make these cookies!

4. Get a small spoonful of dough and roll it into a ball. Try to make your balls as uniform as possible. (Kids LOVE to play with the dough. As long as they have utilized some good hand-washing, they make awesome helpers for this part!)

5. Mix together the sugar and cinnamon that have been set aside for the topping. I found it easiest to put them on a large dinner plate. Roll each ball in the cinnamon-sugar.

6. Place each ball on a cookie sheet and bake for 7-10 minutes. *PLEASE underbake your cookies just a tad. Pull them out and let them bake on the pan outside of the oven. Cookies shouldn’t crunch! (Unless they are Oreos.)

This recipe made 3 dozen cookies for me. (However, it should be noted that I don’t like this cookie dough….when I DO eat the cookie dough, I get considerably less cookies!)

Enjoy the perfect taste of fall. I found these to be the most delicious straight of the oven, all warm and cinnamony!
