Ahh the road trip. It’s practically a rite of passage, and definitely a box to be checked off of everyone’s bucket list. I remember the first real road trip I took. My parents and I went on a 9 state trek, visiting a host of kitschy tourist attractions, national parks, and making tons of memories along the way.
There’s just something special about being cooped up in the family car with the ones you love. Laughter. Singing. Stories. New sights. It’s an adventure (which in our family is a little euphemism for being lost!) We stood at the edge of the Grand Canyon. A buffalo quite literally stopped our car in its tracks in Yellowstone. We emerged from a cave in Colorado to view the most incredible double rainbow. I developed a fear of taxidermy in a sketchy wax museum in Wyoming and collected about 3 dozen postcards. I stood under the antler arch in Jackson Hole, realized the 7 Falls in Colorado isn’t really all that great, and explored Native American cave dwellings. That trip was nearly 20 years ago, and I can still remember nearly every detail. I’m sure we got on each others nerves…but we bonded…it’s what families do.

Driving across the country….that’s the perfect “vehicle” for memory making. (Sorry, couldn’t help myself!) As a mother of four, I anticipate the day when our kids are all old enough to handle a road trip. The funky motels, tourist hot-spots, crazy attractions, and little hole in the wall diners are calling my name! What is your favorite road trip memory? Are you looking forward to taking your kids on a road trip? Which Kia would you choose?
The road is ready….are you? Get out there. Take the trip. Make the memories!
