I think I may have some genetic ties to the cookie monster. I have an unnatural love of making cookies. I have a recipe box of old standbys, but LOVE finding ways to change up the old classics.

Oatmeal cookies have been a favorite of mine since childhood….(Don’t tell anyone, but it’s because I like oatmeal cookie dough the best!) However, at our house, there is always a great debate over oatmeal cookies…We have real problems I tell ya. =) I prefer oatmeal raisin or oatmeal scotchie while my husband (Lord love him) prefers oatmeal chocolate chip. This recipe is the perfect cookie compromise…a blissful union of chocolate and raisins…cookie heaven.

I really don’t know how I survived nearly 32 years without one of these. After you try one, you won’t be able to go back to plain oatmeal raisin. They’re just that good. Happy baking!

oatmeal cookies

Ingredients

3/4 cup stick margarine

1/2 cup shortening

3/4 cup brown sugar (packed!)

1/2 cup white sugar

1 egg

2 t vanilla

1 t baking soda

1 t salt

2 cups flour

3 cups oatmeal

1 1/2 cups Raisinets

To Prepare

1. Cream together the margarine, shortening, and sugars. Beat until light and fluffy.

2. Add in the egg and vanilla and mix well.

3. Add the baking soda, salt, and flour. When incorporated. stir in the oatmeal.

4. And now for the ingredient that’s been missing from oatmeal cookies all my life….the raisinets!

Bake at 350 for about 7-11 minutes. (Ovens and cooking times may vary.) Keep a watchful eye.My one piece of advice is to under-bake! Pull your cookies out when there is just the tiniest bit of golden color around the bottom, and a bit of a soft center…Let them finish baking on the hot pan out of the oven. My personal cookie philosophy is, if it’s not an Oreo, it shouldn’t crunch!

This recipe yields 2 dozen cookies…..maybe more if you can somehow control yourself and not eat any dough! (We’re not that disciplined around here!)
