There is something about fresh melon during the summertime that can’t be beat! One of my absolute favorite fruits is the cantaloupe. Not only is it fun to say, but it has that juicy sweet quality that captures what summer should look and taste like! I wanted to share a quick and easy recipe (and pretty healthy too) for cantaloupe sorbet! (My mouth is watering already!)

Here is what you’ll need:


Simple Syrup (1/2 cup water / 1/2 cup sugar)

*You make simple syrup by combining equal parts of sugar and water in a saucepan, and heating the mixture over med-high heat until boiling. Stir and cook until the sugar is dissolved. Don’t let it brown, or you’ll make caramel instead!*

4 cups of cubed, peeled cantaloupe (make sure to remove all of the seeds!!) – I made a batch of this today, and didn’t measure. I just used one whole cantaloupe.

2T fresh lemon OR lime juice (either will work, and both will taste great!)

To Prepare

Make your simple syrup (recipe above) and allow to cool. (You can use it warm, but your sorbet will take longer to set up!)

Peel and cube your cantaloupes. Try to resist eating all of your cubes as you prepare the melon!

When the simple syrup is ready, and has cooled, combine it with the cubed cantaloupe and fruit juice in a blender. Puree until the mixture is nice and smooth.

Pour the melon mix into your ice cream maker and follow the user directions. If you do not have an ice cream maker, you can simply pour the mixture into a freezer safe container, and allow to freeze and harden for about 4 hours. It will have more of the texture of a granita, rather than a sorbet, but will still be delicious!

If you want to be really fancy, you can serve this up in hollowed out cantaloupe rinds! Your guests/family will think you’re amazing! =) (Thank you to Lemons and Anchovies for that idea!)
