Please allow me to introduce you to Shelby, a rescue dog who is so cute she inspired a new pre-school game by Educational Insights — Shelby’s Snack Shack Game! Shelby is the office dog at Educational Insights – she even has her own Facebook page! Don’t you just want to scoop her up?!
Shelby’s Snack Shack Game is loads of fun and chock-full of early math skills. Much like another of our favorite Educational Insights games, Sneaky Snacky Squirrel, young children and their families join together to play a fun counting game (which helps promote a deeper understanding of addition and subtraction!!)
It’s a number and counting bone-anza! Shelby buried bones on the beach and needs your help collecting them. Help her collect the most bones and you win! Sounds simple, but be careful—spin a sneaky seagull, and you’ll lose some bones or get sidetracked chewing a flip flop and miss your turn! Includes colorful game board, 1 Shelby Squeezer, 40 Bones, 4 Bowls, 1 Double game spinner, and game guide. For 2–4 players; Age 4 and up. MSRP: $21.99. Available at www.educationalinsights.com, specialty stores and other online retailers.
My kids who are lovers of games and all things dog-related were SO excited to play this game. Even my 2 year old, who isn’t quite old enough to play according to the rules, loved counting the bones and using the adorable Shelby squeezer (all while developing his super-important fine motor skills!) The game is simple, yet holds the attention of young kids. I love that it’s fun but not overwhelming, with just enough structure to teach turn-taking, sequence, rules, etc. We made Shelby’s Snack Shack a part of our weekly “Family Fun Night” and all enjoyed playing the game. Our kids especially loved when Mom or Dad had to lose a few bones thanks to the sneaky seagulls! I love the promotion of math skills, and recommend this game to families with young kids just learning how to follow the rules of basic game-play. This is a wonderful first game that should become a household standard.
How to Play:
1. Spin the first spinner to determine your play. Look out for sneaky seagulls!
2. Spin the second spinner to find out how many bones you win or lose.
3. Use the Shelby squeezer to pick up the bones and put them in your bowl.
4. Collect the most bones in your bowl and you win!
