Every year, we struggle with what to get the grandparents! Do we let the kids pick out something goofy? What do you give people who have everything? This year, I was DELIGHTED when I got the idea to give these adorable custom calendars. These gifts last the whole year round. Parents and teachers alike will find that these Create-A-Calendars are not only a vehicle for creativity, but a fun and interactive learning tool, and a thoughtful and unique gift. (Does it get better than that?!)
The calendars come in a pack of 12 for just $21.99!! That’s just $1.83 per calendar!!! (Cheapest gift idea ever!) Click HERE to purchase these from Discount School Supply.
The calendars are also fantastic for classroom teachers to use with their students! Use these in conjunction with a unit on the calendar, or to supplement your daily calendar curriculum. The students will get valuable practice as they number each of the dates, can learn about important dates and holidays, and will have the opportunity to develop their artistic abilities as they create pictures for each month.
I love that the blank calendars can be used for ANY year. We didn’t make all 12 calendars this year, but that doesn’t mean the others will go to waste! If you have any left over, simply save them and use them the next year! Let your child make a new one each year, and watch their drawings change through time. What a fun way to watch your child’s skills and abilities change each year – and what a neat record to keep of their artistic and fine motor development!
We chose to simply draw thematic scenes for each month, although your creativity is the limit when it comes to selecting what to do for each month’s scene. Make a collage, use a variety of mediums, use torn paper….the sky is the limit.
My kids had a lot of fun deciding what to color for each month, and this activity provided an opportunity for fantastic discussion on months of the year, seasons, seasonal activities, holidays, and more! We would sit and discuss each month, and think about the things we like to do as a family during that month. I loved watching their memories activate, and kick their imaginations into high gear. My kids were SO eager to complete their calendars and loved knowing their artwork would be displayed throughout the year.
Whether you are a parent or a classroom teacher, the value pack of 12 blank calendars make the perfect purchase!
