We recently enjoyed a great family day down the beautiful Oregon gorge. We spent time in Hood River, Oregon and then moved on to the Bonneville Dam and iconic Multnomah Falls. Rather than opting for the ice cream at the very crowded stand at the falls, we made a quick detour into nearby Troutdale, and stopped in at J Gelati.

J Gelati is a family-owned frozen treat shop, which offers frozen treats you won’t find at your average ice cream shop. We loved the novelty of their items, and enjoyed their selection of flavors. J Gelati offers a great variety of Italian Ice, made from real fruit. It’s a great alternative for those wanting a lower-calorie dessert, or someone who can’t eat dairy. They also serve delicious Frozen Custard – an ice cream made from cream, sugar, and eggs. You can also opt for a Gelati, a parfait made from the Italian Ice and the Frozen Custard.

jgelat4The kids loved choosing their flavor. I think peering into a freezer case is a must-do on every summer bucket list. J Gelati offers a great assortment of fruit flavors. We tried the Strawberry, Watermelon, and Orange Cream flavors of Italian Ice. The strawberry flavor was incredible! The Orange Cream tasted just like those classic popsicles we loved as kids. The Italian Ice was the perfect way to cool down after a day of sight-seeing. They were delicious and SO refreshing. My daughter and husband opted for the Frozen Custard. I got to sneak a taste and thought it was creamy and super-tasty.

jgelat2We purchased a $5 certificate for $2 on Restaurant.com. Considering you can get a child’s size Italian Ice for just $2 at J Gelati, the certificate helped 2 of our children have a treat for free! Our family of 6 enjoyed delicious treats for around $12 with the certificate. This was a good deal for a hot day!

For those of you local readers who enjoy trips to the Troutdale outlet mall or hikes around Multnomah Falls, plan on stopping in at J Gelatijgelat1 on your next visit. This quirky and delicious treat shop is worth the quick drive into Troutdale, and you’re sure to love cooling off with one of their sweet treats! (I’m thinking about their Strawberry Ice right now!!!)
