Once upon a time, my bedroom had big, bold stripes. When we moved into our home, I was ready for a change. Our previous master bedroom had drab off-white walls and very little personality. We decided to jazz up our master and paint a dark brown stripe and a turquoise blue stripe. It was colorful, bold, and just what I wanted.
It’s six years later, and we’re now in the process of getting our home ready to sell. The custom stripes I once loved probably aren’t going to appeal to your average home-buyer. We knew we needed to go with something neutral.
I also happened to get a new bedding set and curtains. It was time for a change – and I knew a fresh coat of paint was the first step of the transformation.
I was so impressed with the selection of colors Sherwin-Williams offers. You can check out some of their color choices HERE. They offer the right shade for ANY project. For the walls of our master bedroom, we went with Aloof Gray from the Cool Neutrals family. (And I absolutely LOVE it!) We also selected a beautiful yellow called Daisy to change up one of our furniture pieces and provide a nice pop of color.
We headed down to our local Sherwin-Williams store to pick up our paint. Do you have a store near you? Try the Sherwin-Williams store locator. I was so impressed with the employees at the Sherwin-Williams store. They carried our paint order out to our car for us, and helped us load it into the trunk!! Talk about fantastic service!!
I was so eager to get that first coat of paint on the walls. As I started to paint, two things really stood out to me. First, the paint went on so wonderfully smooth and had fantastic coverage. I didn’t need to prime before painting – and those bold dark stripes? It only took two coats of paint to cover them up! Secondly, I was amazed at the lack of that typical paint smell. We were able to sleep in our room that night without any problem. It didn’t smell like paint at all! I would have felt comfortable allowing my children to sleep in there. It was incredible.
After getting our walls painted their new ultra-relaxing and wonderfully neutral shade, I set my sights on my dresser. You’ll see the finished product in the next post, but I just had to show you how it’s starting to look. I am so in love with this yellow, and the way it plays off the gray!
We still have a few finishing touches to get our new master ready to go and ready to show. But, I couldn’t wait and wanted to share our “mid-transformation” photos with you all – and encourage you to check out Sherwin Williams for your next project.
What do you think? I’ll be posting pics of our FULL transformation soon! It’s looking amazing, and I am so pleased with the results.
