This holiday season, create lasting memories with an incredible cant-miss Portland experience – PIR Winter Wonderland! This past week, we celebrated our weekly “Friday Family Night” by getting into our jammies, and taking a drive through this amazing series of light displays. We sang carols, munched on candy canes, and caught a bit of Christmas spirit, all while enjoying some of the BEST Christmas lights in the area.
Over 100,000 people tour the show each year – and you can be a part of the many local families that have made this event part of their annual holiday traditions.
As you drive through, you’ll see 250 holiday colorful light set pieces and many fully animated scenes. The light scenes are incredible, and truly something you have to see first-hand to truly appreciate. I LOVED the sounds of our four children delighting in the scenes and displays as we drove by! “Look! A train!” “Look at Santa!” “It’s a field of candy!” They had a BLAST and can’t wait to return next year! (They actually asked if we could drive back through as soon as we finished the loop!!)
One of the “fan favorites” is the “12 Days of Christmas.” I remember loving this series long before I had children, and love sharing it with them now. You’ll get to see all the gifts lit up in a super cute and incredible display. My personal favorite is the French hens. You’ll also enjoy 12 themed display areas including Toyland, Candy Cane Lane, Christmas Tree Lane, Reindeer Road, Sports Corner, and many more!
As you drive through the amazing light display, you’ll want to check out the artwork created by local schools. The schools were able to compete for a $1,000 prize. (Our favorite actually won this year!) This is such a neat program, and I am so happy to see a Portland institution like PIR Winter Wonderland supporting the arts and local education. When I was in my very first classroom as a teacher intern, my fifth grade students from James John Elementary in Portland had the opportunity to compete in this art contest. They loved the experience. Come on out and see the incredible artwork local students created.
