This post is brought to you in partnership with Broadway in Portland. Opinions my own.
Leapin’ lizards! One of the world’s most beloved musicals is in Portland! (And it’s phenomenal!!) They say you’re never fully dressed without a smile – and it will be close to impossible to leave the theater without one on your face. An incredible ensemble cast comes together to bring this classic tale to life on stage.
My son and I absolutely LOVED the show – and I’m so excited his first experience with musical theater was Annie!
Watching Gilgamesh Taggett (Oliver Warbucks) form an attachment to Annie (played by the adorable and gifted Heidi Gray) will melt your heart. These two are quite the pair, and sparkle in their title roles.
The story takes the theater-goer through the range of human emotions, drawing you into the story. I cried just moments into the first bars of “Maybe” and found myself laughing minutes later. It’s musical theater perfection. Annie needs to be on everyone’s life bucket list. (Seriously – it’s a must-do!)
Miss Hannigan might be “dripping with little girls” but Lynn Andrews (the extraordinary actress who portrays Miss Hannigan) is all-out dripping with TALENT. She steals each and every scene she is in. Her charisma is electric and comedic timing perfection.
Other bright spots in the cast included the talent of the young girls at the orphanage. “The Hard Knock Life” did not disappoint – nor did the spunk and sass of this talented group of young girls. I fully expect to see their names on future playbills. Additionally, Jeffrey B. Duncan serves as a wonderfully funny FDR – and all of the scenes involving the former President are hilarious.
Don’t miss out Portland! Get your tickets now!! See you at the theater!!
