*This post is brought to you in partnership with Broadway in Portland. I received complimentary tickets to the show. Opinions are my own.

From the very beginning, The Lion King immerses you in story in a theatrical experience unlike any other. I’ve been blessed to attend a wide range of shows this year, but I’ve never experienced anything quite like The Lion King. (I’ve also never seen or heard a crowd react to the opening number like this one did for “The Circle of Life.” You know you’re in for something special when the first song brings the house down!)

Mixing story-telling with incredible music is something you expect when you go to the theater – but Disney’s The Lion King takes it to another level. This show is simply stunning – combining song with dance, amazing stage effects, lighting, costuming, and more.

Utilizing every inch of the theater, The Lion King’s highly-talented ensemble cast creates an environment that makes you feel as though you’re in the heart of The Pride Lands. Animals and natural elements are brought to life. Dramatic lighting sets the scene. The story you know and love is enhanced with African dancing and stunning physical feats. The songs you’ve been singing for years are brought to life as well as several additional songs.

Personal favorites for me included the opening number of “The Circle of Life”, EVERY time Buyi Zama (Rafiki) was on stage (She is AMAZING!), watching young Simba and Nala in “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King,” and seeing my favorite villain (Scar) brought to life by the talented Mark Campbell.
