My third grade son is obsessed with animation. In love with all forms of artistic medium and inspired by visionaries like Walt Disney and Jon Lasseter, my creative child is always looking for a new way to tell a story or communicate an idea. I was thrilled to find out about Animation Studio from HUE – a product that allows students, teachers, and homeschooling families to tell and capture stories in a creative way.

Animation Studio from HUE – is at its heart – all about storytelling. This innovative product encourages kids to share their stories and ideas in a wildly creative way. Kids can use just about anything to create an original stop motion animation video. Using hand-sculpted clay, figurines, minifigs, drawings, torn paper, toy cars, and anything else they can dream up, kids can visually express themselves.

The kit includes:

  • The HUE HD camera, a flexible plug and play USB camera with built-in microphone. HUE’s innovative design is perfect for animation.

The camera is great, and easy to use. I love the way you can maneuver  the camera with ease, setting up different types of shots.

  • The fully-featured HUE Animation software (formally SAM Animation) designed for children by teachers. A single license is included.
  • The HUE Book of Animation (formerly the Klutz Book of Animation) has step-by-step instructions for creating 20 hilarious stop motion videos and ideas for even more. You can view these videos here. The videos, sound effects and backdrops are also included on the CD that comes with the kit.
  • (My son LOVED this book. He absolutely loved looking at the pictures, seeing the ideas, and reading through it. It got him excited and inspired to create – and isn’t that the goal?!)

I love the way you can begin very simply, and slowly build in complexity and detail as you and your student become more adept at using the software. Younger kids can do something very basic while older students can work at creating special effects, lengthier films, and using features such as the green screen.

This product has inspired my son to tell stories. I love that he can express his creativity in a fun and engaging way while building important STEM skills. He’s learning to use new technology and software while fine-tuning the craft and art of stop motion animation. I can’t wait to see what he is able to create. What stories does YOUR child have to tell?
