The kids and I are studying land animals this year for science. We are using Apologia: Land Animals and we’re just loving it. I love incorporating cooking into our curriculum whenever I can. It’s so fun to have all of my kids in the kitchen with me. This recipe is definitely kid-friendly, and your kids will love the way the finished cookies resemble a bear’s paw. Whether you are studying bears or not, these simple cookies are sure to be a hit with your family.
These amazingly soft (and adorable!) cookies use a cake mix as a base. Cake mix cookies are some of my absolute favorites. They’re easy to make, don’t require you to have many ingredients on hand, and stay soft for days.
Here’s what you’ll need to make these Bear Paw Cookies:
Ingredients:
1 chocolate cake mix (I used Devil’s Food, but any chocolate cake mix will work.)
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
peanuts (4 peanut halves per cookie)
Hershey’s kisses (1 per cookie)
To Prepare:
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Mix together the cake mix, oil, and eggs. Drop by rounded spoonful (I use a cookie scoop), onto a cookie sheet. Press four peanut halves onto each cookie to form the “claws.” Bake for about 7 minutes. Pull the tray of cookies out of the oven and carefully press an unwrapped Hershey’s Kiss into the center of each cookie. Return to the oven for another 1-2 minutes. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack.
These cookies are so soft and delicious, and I love the addition of the kiss in the middle! Enjoy and happy baking!
