With school right around the corner, I’ve been actively seeking out learning activities to help get the kids back into the “swing of things.” Our monthly science kit from The Young Scientists Club has been a perfect way for the kids to get ready for the start of a new school year.

You may have seen our reviews of our first two kits. We’ve already delved into the world of Bacteria & Fungi and explored Owls and the food chain! Each kit contains multiple experiments and a TON of great information for your young scientist. So far this summer we’ve reconstructed a rodent skeleton from an owl pellet, made rolls, and grown bacteria in petri dishes! The kits are specifically designed with kids ages 5-12 in mind, and are super-affordable at just $11.99 with a $4.95 shipping fee. Best part? The Young Scientists Club science kits are fun AND educational! Your kids will learn as they explore a whole host of scientific topics because they will be engaged and interested!

This month we are learning all about Scientific Measurements! In this kit, kids will make a spring scale (and practice using it) to learn all about weight and volume. They will use a graduated cylinder to measure and find out that oil and water don’t mix – but rather, make layers! In the last experiment, young scientists will discover that different liquids have different densities. And of course, Celsius the Science Bug will be along for the ride, providing lots of kid-friendly scientific information and guidance. (This is a very kid AND parent-friendly subscription kit, as the experiments don’t require a lot of prior knowledge, planning, or at-home materials! It is quick and easy to get going once you open your packet – and that is a WIN for busy parents and curious kids!!)

I’m so excited that the kit came with some awesome re-usable science supplies! We will put much of this to use when we study chemistry this year!

Henry (my soon-to-be 5th grader) got right to work setting up his spring scale! This really appealed to his love of engineering and construction!

He was able to work through the next several experiments using the spring scale – discovering weight. What I LOVED was that after he had moved on, my six year old came over and started her own experiments. This is one of those incredible unscripted moments that speaks for itself. Science is captivating!

The fun didn’t stop with the spring scale. My son’s favorite experiment of the day was pouring water and oil into a test tube to see what happened. He was mesmerized and so excited to learn that they did not mix! I LOVE the look of wonder on his face!
