Like so many others, I restarted my goal of becoming a healthier person today. While my kids were out riding bikes during their lunch recess, I decided to walk.

We live on a farm out in the country – surrounded by a terrific number of hills and walking paths. To be near the kids, I decided to walk up and down the paved hill that leads to the house. It’s a fairly steep incline, and difficult when you’re out of shape/practice.

When I reached the top of the hill, my eyes were immediately drawn to the mountains – their rocky peaks just kissed with snow. It was breathtaking.

The view got me thinking. I can’t see these mountains from my house. When I’m walking around on flat, easy terrain – these mountains aren’t in view. If I want this view – I have to put in the hard work of walking up the hill.

When we’re in our comfort zones, life is easy. Sure, we’re not exerting a lot of effort or experiencing any real pain or discomfort, but we’re missing out. If we want the view of perspective…of achievement…of growth….we have to put in the work. We have to walk up the hill.

Growth, change, and perspective require something from us. They don’t come easy, cheap, or without effort. But -when we reach the summit and look around – we can see what we were missing out on when we were limiting ourselves to our comfort zone.

I don’t know about you – but I’m tired of confining myself. I want to take small steps and climb the “hills” in my life – because I know once I reach the top – it will have been worth it.

Climb a few hills with me? Let’s get out of our comfort zones and start putting in the work together. I’m so excited to see what is in store this year.
