Broadway in Portland has announced their upcoming 2026-2027 season….and it did not disappoint. Get ready Portland – it’s going to be an incredible year at the theater! This year’s lineup includes some fantastic new shows coming off Broadway and a few long-time favorites (that I can’t wait to see again!)
2026-2027 SEASON AT A GLANCE
ALICIA KEYS’ HELL’S KITCHEN: July 14 – 19, 2026
First up is the award-winning musical from Alicia Keys, HELL’S KITCHEN, created and inspired by the 17-time Grammy® Award winning artist and her upbringing in the NYC neighborhood of the same name.
HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD: August 1 – 15, 2026
Get ready to spend an evening this summer experiencing the wizarding world like never before as the record-breaking, Tony Award®-winning hit, HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD casts a spell on Portland. (As someone who has read and re-read the Harry Potter series countless times, I am beyond excited for this one!!!)
WATER FOR ELEPHANTS: September 29 – October 4, 2026
In the Fall, WATER FOR ELEPHANTS, the critically acclaimed bestselling novel comes to life on stage in a unique, spectacle-filled new musical. (I read and loved this book and cannot wait to see it come to life on the stage! This is going to be a good one!!)
THE OUTSIDERS: November 17 – 24, 2026
Fall continues with the winner of four 2024 Tony Awards®, including Best Musical, THE OUTSIDERS, a coming-of-age story based in 1967 Tulsa, Oklahoma where a group of “outsiders” dream about who they want to become in a world that may never accept them. What can I say? This season is a reader’s DREAM. You’ll definitely want to grab your tickets while you can though – because, nothing gold can stay. 😉
DISNEY’S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST: January 5 – 10, 2027
You’ll definitely want to “be our guest” for DISNEY’S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST which features the Oscar®-winning and Tony Award®-nominated score, including the classic songs “Be Our Guest” and “Beauty and the Beast.” I loved this one the first time I was able to see it, and can’t wait to catch this pixie-dusted show again.
HADESTOWN (Season Option) *: January 26 – 31, 2027
The new year brings Broadway In Portland’s Season Option, HADESTOWN, the haunting and hopeful theatrical experience that grabs you and never lets go. *A completed subscription purchase must be processed in order to purchase tickets for the Season Option. Season Option is not included in a 2026-2027 season package. Additional purchase is required.
CLUE: March 2 – 7, 2027
In early Spring, head to the theater as CLUE is set to captivate the Rose City with the ultimate whodunit that will leave you dying of laughter and keep you guessing until the final twist!
THE SOUND OF MUSIC: MAY 11 – 16, 2027
The season closes as one of our “favorite things” returns to Portland. The beloved THE SOUND OF MUSIC ends the season in a new production, with its timeless story and irresistibly charming score. If you’ve never had the opportunity to see this story unfold on the stage, you won’t want to miss it!

My son just auditioned for his first high-school musical. What does that have to do with the upcoming Broadway in Portland season you ask? A lot. My son had always been musical and did well in his then perfunctory piano lessons. And suddenly after his first show at the Keller Auditorium, I started to hear A LOT of Broadway songs being played on the piano and noticed he was spending a lot more time practicing. Then he joined choir. Auditioned for jazz choir. And soon he’ll be performing on stage as an actor for the first time. Theater did that. It’s more than entertainment. More than a “nice evening out.” It’s inspiration. It’s pure magic. Seeing the performers on stage combining their passions for acting and music sparked something in my son. On that stage he didn’t just see a show – he saw opportunity. Community. Joy.
So, when the season announcement was made, I was THRILLED. Broadway in Portland delivers phenomenal shows each and every season, but as a parent I was so excited to see so many kid-friendly shows in the upcoming lineup. How many other kids will find inspiration in the coming year as they watch Ponyboy (The Outsiders) have the courage to write or Maria (The Sound of Music) break free and find her own path? It’s exciting to think about!
I’ve been blessed to bring each of my four children to the Keller Auditorium and watch their eyes light up at the magic unfolding onstage. (Beauty and the Beast (returning this year!) was actually my eldest’s FIRST Broadway show – right at the Keller Auditorium 10 years ago!) She and I would also enjoy The Sound of Music three years later.
And don’t get me wrong, theater has changed ME as well – because I firmly believe theater is for EVERYONE. There is something profoundly beautiful about shared experiences – of hundreds of people from different backgrounds holding different belief systems, who for just a few hours, come together in appreciation of the arts. Each and every show I get to see moves me. Stirs me. Makes me think. It’s more than a show.
